Formed in late September 2000, by Andrew and Chris, closeminded is a 4 piece pop punk band with punk, ska, and alternative influences. Days later, Evan and Rob joined the band and the initial line-up of closeminded was solidified. Andrew, Chris, and Evan all had to go out and buy their instruments and learn them, so very little practicing happened in those first days. In November 2000, on a late-night trip to the diner, the name "closeminded" was suggested and quickly became the name of the band.

In April 2001, Rob asked Andrew and Chris to write a song in honor of his birthday, and Andrew and Chris penned their first song, "the birthday song." Finally, on September 15th, 2001, closeminded's first practice took place in the Butt B Lounge. Matt joined the band in early February, 2002. From September 2001, through May 2002, closeminded wrote "vicious girlfriend", "leaving me behind", "in cold blood", "lost in the sun", and "drunk punk down." During this period, closeminded also recorded "the ass-demo." and "the rape and pillage eps." (with the minor exception that some of the vocals of "the pillage ep." were recorded in September 2002)

In late August and early September 2002, the band decided that the current (early) sound was not the sound they were looking for and decided to try to change things to get closer to the sound they wanted. After much anguish, the band asked Evan if he could do anything besides lead vocals and lyric writing, leading to Evan's quitting the band. We miss you Evan (in respect of Evan's absence from the band, closeminded no longer uses songs that he wrote).

From September through December 2002, closeminded, with their new direction in mind, began writing new songs, including: "i need to know", "you've changed", "inevitable", "so long", "i'm sick", "revenge of ska" (which has since been retired), "unite" (which is "lost in the sun", but faster, and with new lyrics), and "stand up straight".

In December 2002, Rob took a leave of absence (to take a semester abroad in London) and the band was forced to temporarily become a 3-piece, with Matt on drums, Chris on guitar, and Andrew on bass guitar.

In September, 2003, closeminded celebrated its second birthday, and back together as a four-piece, with a new side-project called Lonnie and the Hornblowers taking care of all cover songs for them, they're zooming forward with writing a lot of new songs and getting ready to start playing shows all over the tri-state area.
